History of Establishment

In 1951, the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine (now the  Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine) opened a postgraduate program in four specialties: agricultural reclamation, agrochemistry, breeding and seed production, and crop science. In 2019, a doctoral program was also established. To coordinate the scientific and methodological activities of the postgraduates and researchers who had already successfully finished their candidate and doctoral dissertations, the Young Scientists Council was created. Over the years of its existence, young scientists at the Institute have successfully finished over 156 candidate dissertations and 11 doctoral dissertations. Specifically, from 2012 to 2022, 56 candidate dissertations and 11 doctoral dissertations were successfully finished.

Every year, the Institute accepts 12-15 young scientists into its postgraduate program, including 3-4 who are full-time researchers (mostly after completing their university studies). The Council consisted of active young scientists and postgraduates, with candidates of agricultural sciences often holding leadership positions. In 2022, the Institute of Irrigated Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, the Rice Institute of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, and the Southern State Agricultural Research Station of the Institute of Water Problems and Land Reclamation of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine merged and form the  Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine.

The Institute has had and continues to have an advisory group of doctors of science to provide methodological and practical assistance to postgraduates and young scientists in designing research schemes, preparing scientific publications, and candidate dissertations.

Activities of the Council

Achievements in the Past

Our scientists have always participated in various scientific seminars, symposiums, and conferences, and have improved their qualifications in other research institutions. Competitions were regularly held among postgraduates and young scientists for the best research conduct and mastery of research methodology. Every year, a competition for the best presentation by a young scientist was organized, and 1-3 conferences for young scientists were held. The Council’s members organized sports competitions and scientific popular contests. On the occasion of Science and Agriculture Workers’ Day, the Young Scientists Council always actively participated in preparing artistic performances for participation in festive concerts, organized and conducted competitions for handmade festive crafts etc. Additionally, every summer, our youth directly participates in repair work to prepare the recreational base “Scientist” of the Institute of Climate-Oriented Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine for the summer season. It is the responsibility of young scientists to take care of the museum, replenish exhibits in the exhibition hall, maintain order in the dendrological park area, and plant new trees.

Over the years, several of our young scientists have been awarded scholarships by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, which were received by Marchenko T.Yu., Perchyts A.I., Netreba O.O., Voitashenko D.P., Bidnina I.O., Piliarska O.O., Lykhovid P.V., and Yuziuk S.M.

Current Activities

At the Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences of Ukraine, scientific-practical conferences and seminars for young scientists are regularly held. Young scientists actively participate in national and international scientific-practical conferences. Currently, the Council consists of 10 young scientists, including 2 candidates of agricultural sciences (1 of whom has obtained the title of senior researcher) and 8 who are pursuing their postgraduate studies.

The Institute publishes the Interdepartmental Thematic Scientific Journal “Irrigated Agriculture” and “Agrarian Innovations,” both are included in the list of scientific  journals (Category B) of Ukraine in the field of natural and agricultural sciences (specialties 101 “Ecology,” 201 “Agronomy,” 202 “Plant Protection and Quarantine”) according to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. The program objectives include publishing scientific articles that discuss research results of theoretical and practical nature in the field of agricultural sciences and food, as well as review and discussion articles. Young scientists actively publish their achievements in these publications, with an average of 4-5 scientific works per year per scientist.

Moreover, in the last 5 years alone, young scientists have obtained 27 patents and author’s certificates. Young scientists at the Institute constantly communicate with other researchers, exchange experiences, interesting information, and news. We have created our own group on the social network Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/molodiicsanaas/).
